Bedrooms
Bedrooms offer several opportunities to make energy saving improvements.
Electronics
Select ENERGY STAR electronics.
Recognize large video screens are power hungry.
Plug home electronics, such as TVs and DVD players, into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use (TVs and DVDs in standby mode still use several watts of power).
Lighting
Replace normal incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient fluorescents.
Insulation and air leaks
Add wall, ceiling and duct insulation if you will be opening walls.
Seal air leaks around doors, windows, electrical outlets.
Windows
Upgrade existing windows by adding storm windows, caulking and weather stripping, and adding window treatment or coverings.
Replace old windows with new, energy efficient windows. www.energysavers.gov/your_home/windows_doors_skylights/index.cfm/mytopic=13340
